چکیده

In gas phase, collisions that affect the rotational angular momentum lead to the return of the magnetization to its equilibrium (relaxation) in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). To the best of our knowledge, the longitudinal relaxation rates R1 = 1/T1 of protons in H2O and HDO have never been measured in gas phase. We report R1 in gas phase in a field of 18.8 T, i.e., at a proton Larmor frequency ν0 = 800 MHz, at temperatures between 353 and 373 K and pressures between 9 and 101 kPa. By assuming that spin rotation is the dominant relaxation mechanism, we estimated the effective cross-section σJ for the transfer of angular momentum due to H2O-H2O and HDO-D2O collisions. Our results allow one to test theoretical predictions of the intermolecular potential of water in gas phase.

Applications of tritium NMR to macromolecules: a study of two nucleic acid molecules.

We have tritium labeled two nucleic acid molecules, an 8 kDa DNA oligomer and a 20 kDa 'hammer-head' RNA for tritium NMR investigations. The DNA sequence studied has been previously used in homonuclear studies of DNA-bound water molecules and tritium NMR was expected to facilitate these investigations by eliminating the need to suppress the water resonance in tritium-detected 3H-1H NOESY experi...

Kinetics of DNA hydration.

The hydration of the d(CGCGAATTCGCG) B-DNA duplex in solution was studied by nuclear magnetic relaxation dispersion (NMRD) of the water nuclei 1H, 2H, and 17O, and by nuclear Overhauser effects (NOEs) in high-resolution two-dimensional 1H NMR spectra. By comparing results from the free duplex with those from its complex with netropsin, water molecules in the "spine of hydration" in the AATT reg...

Proton Dipolar Spin–Lattice Relaxation in Nano-channels of Natrolite

The 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and the dipolar spin-lattice relaxation time T1D for 1H in the natural natrolite (Na2Al2Si3O10·2H2O) have been measured in the temperature range of 190-390 K. From the temperature transformations of 1H NMR spectra, it follows that at T > 300 K, the diffusion of water molecules along the nano-channels is observed. From experimental T1D data, it fol...

Tetrapropylammonium Occlusion in Nanoaggregates of Precursor of Silicalite-1 Zeolite Studied by 1H and 13C NMR

The dynamic behavior of tetrapropylammonium (TPA) cations in the clear precursor sols for silicalite synthesis has been investigated by 1H diffusion ordered spectroscopy (DOSY), T1, T2, and T1ρ 1H relaxation, as well as 1HÑ13C cross polarization (CP) nuclear magnetic resonance. The DOSY NMR experiments showed the presence of strong solute–solvent interactions in concentrated sols, which are dec...

Polarization transfer by cross-correlated relaxation in solution NMR with very large molecules (NMR with biological macromoleculesycross relaxation-enhanced polarization transferyheteronuclear correlation)

In common multidimensional NMR experiments for studies of biological macromolecules in solution, magnetization transfers via spin–spin couplings [insensitive nuclei enhanced by polarization transfer (INEPT)] are key elements of the pulse schemes. For molecular weights beyond 100,000, transverse relaxation during the transfer time may become a limiting factor. This paper presents a transfer tech...
